Assessing the Performance of Time and Resting Period between Different Activities of Brick Kiln Workers

Abstract
The study investigated that the time spent in performing different types of activities in various awkward postures, resting period between different activities and resting period in different activities taken by brick kiln workers, concentrating on brick moulding activity. To fulfill the aims of the study, 250 workers were selected randomly and questionnaire was developed and workplace analysis was accomplished by observing the workers while they were doing the activities. Results showed that total 12 hours of time was taken by the workers for doing all brick kiln activities and total 1 hour 25 minutes of resting period was taken by workers between different activities. Workers complained pain in different brick kiln activities and they were not aware about the musculoskeletal problems. In conclusion, the result of the study pointed out the number of important factors that must be addressed which included the work place design necessitating frequent bending and twisting of trunk. Other problems such as inadequate breaks and high speed of work also needed to be addressed.
